DIY kit care instructions
You just received a milkweed DIY kit. This is made up of a pony six-pack with soil and 2-3 milkweed seeds per cell. It’s important to grow 5-6 milkweed because monarch caterpillars are voracious eaters. Please make sure you filled out the recipient form!
Milkweed loves the heat! They won’t germinate until temperatures are consistently over 80 degrees.
After milkweed seeds are sewn give the pot a good soak (●Water gently with a watering can so you do not push the seeds out) and make sure to wet the medium entirely. Place your container outdoors in full sun.
●Allow the surface to dry down before watering again but keep in mind that your seed is in the top inch of the soil that needs to stay moist so don't let it dry down too much. .
●Your watering schedule will likely be every two to three days.
Once the seeds have emerged, they will begin to drink up the water and watering will be more frequent, particularly after the plant starts putting in growth and begins to fill the pot with roots. Multiple individuals germinate in your pot you can thin or leave them clustered. Seedlings don't seem to mind growing in pairs
Grow your plants in the six packs for about 8 weeks. Once your plants look close the picture above it’s time to plant them in the ground! You can plant them earlier but make sure to water. A baby milkweed can get fried by the sun quickly. To transplant your milkweed into your garden click below
